Eudora varsity football has come to an end following a close game that Basehor won in the final minute of the game.
The Cardinals made it to the second round of the playoffs after beating Piper last week.
Quarterback Ezekiel Reazin accounted for both of the Cardinals’ touchdowns in the game with one pass touchdown and one rushing.
“We got really lucky to play the whole season, and I’m proud of everyone for doing what they had to do,” Reazin said. “We just kept thinking playoffs, and we were going to be a tough team to beat.”
Neither team scored until late in the second quarter when Reazin launched a pass to wide receiver Jaden Hamm to put Eudora up 6-0. Basehor answered with a touchdown pass with 55 seconds left in the first half to tie the game going into halftime.
Eudora kept the ball on the ground and used their consistent run game led by junior running back Brayden Beerbower in the third quarter. However, a costly fumble in the red zone when they were in scoring position stalled the momentum they gained during the drive.
Both teams remained scoreless in the second half until a few minutes into the fourth quarter when Basehor led a productive drive down the field that was capped off with a passing touchdown to give them a 12-6 lead.
Eudora bounced right back with a quick drive of their own as they were able to tie the game on a 24-yard rushing touchdown from Reazin with 4 minutes left. Each team seemed to be fueled from seeing the other score.
Basehor was able to keep the clock running on the ensuing possession and converted on crucial third downs to score and bring the game to its final score of 19-12 with just over a minute left.
Eudora ended its season with a record of 3-7.
