The Eudora High School Choir spent its Valentine’s Day busing around Eudora surprising residents and spreading love.
This is the second year Allison Enneking, the Eudora High School choir teacher, has done singing valentines with her students. She said she did singing valentines as a student and she enjoyed spreading the love and joy and wanted to continue it in Eudora.
The singing valentines were a fundraiser for the choir, and students spent the day traveling around town delivering the valentines to homes and businesses.
"For the last two years, we've sung for my great-grandpa, and last year was the first year we had ever done them, and that was his first Valentine's Day without my grandma," said Eudora senior Khloe Crawshaw. "So we did that again this year and it just brightens his day."
The students start working on the music for the valentines after Christmas break and Enneking said working on the singing valentines helps the students get back in the roll of classes.
Junior Alexander Vonderbrink said he enjoys the singing valentines and how it continues throughout the school year. He said a section of the choir will start to sing a tune from a past song and the rest will join in to continue it.
The response from the community ranges from wide smiles to teary eyes as they feel special to their someone or remember those who are no longer with them to celebrate this Valentine's Day.
“We are grateful to live in a community that not only supports our kids and their pursuits in music but also is even willing to let a choir full of teenagers storm their house and sing for them,” Enneking said.
