The Eudora City Commission approved an ordinance issuing nearly $8.3 million in industrial revenue bonds for a new Modern Manufacturing facility in town at its meeting Monday.

The facility, which was announced in September, will produce aluminum, stainless steel and other high-strength metals in Eudora's Intech Business Park.

The approved bonds will go toward financing construction and equipment for the facility, which is anticipated to be in operation in early 2021. All costs associated with the project, including financing, will be incurred by the company, the city said.

Fire Chief Ken Keiter said a flag raising ceremony with Modern Manufacturing staff will take place for the new facility at 10 a.m. Wednesday and the president of Modern Manufacturing will open the ceremony to the public.

"He's hoping to have members of the community, business owners, the governing body and the city manager's office," Keiter said. "He's hoping to have as many people there as possible."

In other news, commissioners heard from project team members about upcoming infrastructure construction on the Nottingham commercial redevelopment project during a work session.

Upcoming construction will involve improvements to reconstruct Church Street, including expanding the street to add a third lane for traffic and installing traffic signals at the intersection at 15th Street. The improvements will begin at the entrance of K-10 and end just north of 14th Street. Full exhibits for the project are included in the meeting's agenda.

City Manager Barack Matite said the goal for this component of the Nottingham project will take about six months, with some of the infrastructure work beginning this week and continuing into 2021.

Don Currise of capital program management company Vieste LLC., who has been working with city staff on the redevelopment project, said the project construction managers Amino Brothers will be permitted to proceed with the project this week with the intent to finish by early April.

The City Commission will next meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 24. Details for remote access to the meeting will be available online.
