Concerns about boats and trailers parked on grass or violating off-street parking regulations prompted the Eudora City Commission to discuss Monday night whether to take further action.
Mayor Tim Reazin and members of the commission received an email from a Eudora resident about the matter, but no one from the public attended the meeting to speak on the issue.
The City Commission has had the current regulations for off-street parking for vehicles in place the past four years, when the Planning Commission was directed to look into the zoning for this issue and recommended the adoption of the current policy.
Eudora city code prohibits vehicles from parking “off the street in the front or side yard setback area.” The City Commission or the city manager may permit exceptions for a maximum of 48 hours in specified locations.
It is best for boats and trailers to be parked on an improved surface or in a driveway, Reazin said.
City Manager Barack Matite said city employees already talk to homeowners and explain what the parking rules are.
Commissioner Jolene Born suggested the topic be revisited at a later time.
“If they are not a safety issue, I would say to wait until we're out of season,” Born said.
The commission took no further action on the matter Monday.
