City Commission moves to remote meetings during pandemic

Here is the dial-in information for anyone wanting to listen live to Monday's City Commission meeting.

BY LUCIE KRISMAN

The Eudora City Commission has shifted its meeting to be held remotely due to concerns surrounding the spread of COVID-19.

The commission will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, providing an option to attend remotely to adhere to the Kansas Open Meetings Act.

Members of the community who want to attend remotely can listen to the meeting live. The conference call can be joined by dialing (701) 802-5078 and typing the access code 444540#. Members of the City Commission, city staff or presenters during the meeting will identify themselves before speaking.

The commission discussed and approved a resolution regarding remote participation at its March 23 meeting. This policy has since been reviewed and approved by city attorney David Waters.

Monday's meeting will include consideration of taking part in a First Impressions Program, which operates similarly to a secret shoppers program.

A small group of Eudorans would travel to another similarly sized community in Kansas and a group of residents from the other community would travel to Eudora.

They will take notes about their first impressions that would be provided to K-State Research & Extension to draft a report, which would be presented to the community at a town hall style meeting, according to a memo in the City Commission packet.

The initial conversation of the program involved Ami Bruce of the Chamber of Commerce, Elizabeth Knispel and Jenny Hellwig of the Eudora Convention & Visitor's Bureau and Assistant City Manager Leslie Herring.

The commission will also discuss a response to the city's request for information from Monarch Build, a company that has been the contractor of the development team for the Nottingham property development.

The commission expressed interest in hearing more about Monarch Build at its meeting on March 23. The company has provided a presentation in response, including an executive summary of the company, an organizational chart and list of key staff for the Nottingham project, a description of the company's relevant experience and pricing for the project.

Anyone who wants to make a public comment for the remote meeting can send or e-mail comments to City Clerk Pam Schmeck by 5 p.m. Monday. Public comments can be submitted via the utility drop box on the east side of City Hall, e-mailed to pschmeck@cityofeudoraks.gov or sent to P.O. Box 650, Eudora, Kansas 66025. Anyone submitting a comment must include their name and address in their comment. All comments will be read by the city clerk during the public comment portion of the meeting and are limited to five minutes per person.  Additional information on the meeting on Monday can be found on the city of Eudora website.
