City plans public forum about Eudora's future

BY LUCIE KRISMAN

Eudora residents will have a chance this week to give input on what they want to see for the city’s future.

As part of the process for updating Eudora's comprehensive plan, the city will hold a town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. The public forum will last about 90 minutes and will include both a presentation and informal discussion.

Mayor Tim Reazin said the town hall will give city staff a chance to learn more about the future that Eudora residents envision for their town.

"Historically, we have kind of fixed problems as they came along,” Reazin said. “What we're trying to do is have a long-term plan so when we fix those problems, it's not just a short-term fix."

Vice Mayor Ruth Hughs said the input Eudora residents give at this meeting will help the City Commission make decisions that reflect what the community most wants.

"As a city commissioner, I want and need direction from our community to help make decisions that represent the desires of a cross section of our residents,” she said. “All community members are invited to participate and have their voices heard."

Assistant City Manager Leslie Herring said this meeting is a great opportunity for residents to inform the city of specific changes they want to see.

"This is the general public's chance to provide their input and insight into their vision for the community over the next 20 years," Herring said. "So if people have specific things that they like about the community or would like to see happen differently or see more of or less of, this is the opportunity for them to come and express those opinions and views and feelings."

In addition to attending the meeting, Eudora residents can take the survey over their hopes and ideas for the plan. The survey is in multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank format and is anonymous. It will be open here until Feb. 10.

Reazin said residents should try to make the meeting but are encouraged to give their input through the survey as well, especially if they cannot make the meeting.

"I think it's important to do the survey but also to show up just to be informed about the opportunities the plan will offer," Reazin said.
