Eudora Fire Department responds to grass fire, cause unknown

UPDATE:


Firefighters battled a grass fire just along Kansas Highway 10 for around two and a half hours Saturday afternoon, Fire Chief Ken Keiter said.


Keiter said the cause of the fire will likely remain undetermined. The fire burned from Evening Star Road to just west of Winchester Road in Eudora.


One firefighter was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion, but no other injuries were reported.


ORIGINAL STORY


The Eudora Fire Department responded to a grass fire along Kansas Highway 10 just after 1 p.m. Saturday.


Firefighters responded to a call at 1:09 p.m. of a grass fire along the highway just west of the Church Street exit. Part of K-10 westbound was down to one lane due to the fire as of just after 3 p.m.


Fire Chief Ken Keiter said it is currently unclear what caused the fire. He said there were reports of grass fires in several spots along the highway into Johnson County.


Multiple fire departments responded to the fire in addition to Eudora, including the Olathe Fire Department, the Wakarusa Volunteer Fire Department, Lawrence Douglas-County Fire Medical and others.
