Eudora Fire Department responds to structure fire at manufacturing plant

BY SYDNEY HOOVER

The Eudora Fire Department responded to a large structure fire Friday afternoon on the north side of the Adler Pelzer Group Manufacturing Plant.

No injuries to firefighters or occupants of the building at 1201 Cardinal Drive were reported, according to a news release. About 20 employees were displaced at the time of the incident.

The fire, which occurred around 12:30 p.m., was located in a fiberglass cooling tower a few feet from the building. The exterior of the building was scorched by the fire but there was no damage to the interior.

A group of truck drivers who arrived at the plant initially saw the fire and alerted occupants of the building with airhorns. Employees activated a manual fire alarm and evacuated the building.

The fire took 50 minutes to contain and firefighters said the smoke could be seen from a mile away. The department estimated $60,000 of damage from the fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, according to the news release. It is currently being investigated by the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office.
