The Eudora School Board moved to begin looking for a replacement for an open seat on the board at a meeting Thursday evening.
Former board member Bryan Maring submitted his resignation from the board on Nov. 12 due to his family moving out of state. Maring had served on the school board for four years and was re-elected to a second term in November a week before resigning.
“I have been extremely impressed with the level of commitment, passion, and direction the school board has demonstrated in my 4 years and to each of the school board members I have served with,” Maring said in his resignation letter.
The resolution passed Thursday allowed the board to put out a public notice about the vacancy before beginning a search for Maring’s replacement.
Anyone interested in filling the seat can submit a letter of application to the district office until Jan. 8, said Superintendent Steve Splichal, and those individuals will be announced at the next board meeting on Jan. 13.
Board members would then go through the process of interviewing candidates and a final recommendation would be announced in February. The new board member would take the seat beginning in March, Splichal said.
In other news, the School Board recognized Joe Pyle for his 20 years of service on the board. Thursday evening was his final meeting before his term ended.
Pyle was given a plaque recognizing his two decades of service, which Splichal said was “a very small token of appreciation for the leadership and guidance you have offered.”
“We have just a phenomenally professional board,” Pyle said. “They care about the school district, and so I said we’re in great hands. And so I just thank you all for allowing me to serve with you.”
During the meeting, the boys soccer team was also recognized for its exceptional season.
