The Eudora Schools Foundation raised over $24,000 Tuesday in a 24-hour campaign to support the school district.
The campaign, called the Eudora Schools Foundation’s Giving Day, will help fund varying needs throughout the district, such as additional support for teachers in classrooms or for families who may have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Initially, the foundation sought out to raise $15,000. It matched the financial support that the Eudora School Foundation previously fundraised last year from community members in its annual fundraising campaign.
Shanda Hurla, the foundation’s executive director, said the total from Tuesday’s campaign made her speechless.
“We’re celebrating possibilities of what kind of impact we can make for our Eudora kids over this next year,” Hurla said. “That’s a whole other ballgame when you achieve that much.”
More donations came in through Wednesday morning, Hurla said. In addition to the Giving Day, schools in the district are continuing their coin drive through Thursday. The Eudora Schools Foundation expects to provide an additional update Friday with the total amount raised, Hurla said.
“I have so much gratitude for everyone who gave yesterday,” Hurla said. “We’re coming off a really hard year and a hard time … I think knowing an investment in our kids, in our education — that’s where the sense of a possibility comes from.”
Last year in its annual campaign that targeted members of the school district, teachers and more, the Eudora Schools Foundation raised about $41,000 in total from July 2019 to June 2020.
