The Eudora school district’s superintendent will resign in June for another job opportunity, ending a seven-year stint in Eudora.
Superintendent Steve Splichal offered a letter of resignation to Eudora school board members Thursday evening. He will step down on June 30.
The resignation was moved forward “with regret” by board members after more than an hour long closed session. It passed unanimously. At the time, there was no clear answer as to why Splichal was stepping down. The meeting was shortly adjourned after.
In an email sent out to Eudora school families, Splichal said he was offered another opportunity both personally and professionally in Wyoming.
“The dream of living and working in the mountains is one that Julie [Splichal’s wife] and I have long held since even before we were married,” Splcihal wrote in the email. “As our children have grown older, we have realized that if we are to embrace those dreams, we need to step away from our comfort zone and pursue them.”
It was not immediately clear where Splichal was going to be employed next. The Eudora Times contacted the school district to further clarify, but did not receive a response by time of print.
Splichal took over in July 2014. He was previously the superintendent of McClouth schools.
“Thank you for all you have done to support me personally and professionally,” Splichal wrote. “I only wish continued success for this district in the future.”
