The Eudora Times selected Sydney Hoover as its next editor.
Hoover is a third-year student at the University of Kansas double majoring in journalism and Spanish with a minor in sociology. She currently works as the news editor of KU’s student publication, the University Daily Kansan.
Hoover grew up in Shawnee and is a 2017 graduate of De Soto High School.
She will start her new position with The Eudora Times in January but will begin training with the reporting team effective immediately.
“I’m very humbled to have been selected as Dr. Finneman’s successor at the Eudora Times,” Hoover said. “I am so amazed by the foundation Dr. Finneman and her reporters have built for this publication and am excited to start getting to know the community that has made it possible.”
Hoover will succeed Teri Finneman as the Eudora Times editor. Finneman will move into an advising position for the Times as it shifts ownership to the Jayhawk Media Group in the coming months.
“I specifically asked Sydney to take on this role as editor because I knew she had the journalism and leadership skills needed to continue this venture and the local ties that are so important in community journalism,” Finneman said. “I look forward to working with her and how we can take our newspaper to the next level.”
With the Kansan, Hoover has covered a range of issues on campus, including Student Senate and graduate affairs. In addition, Hoover has been involved in other campus organizations, including the Journalism Student Leadership Board, the University Honors Program and Alpha Chi Omega sorority where she served as an executive officer.
Hoover expects to graduate from KU in December 2020 and hopes to continue her career as a political journalist at the local or state level.
Hoover joins reporters Lucie Krisman, Riley Wilson and Page Cramer on The Eudora Times team, along with sports reporter Max Irvine and newsletter and podcast director Raymond Forstater.
In January, additional students will also begin assisting The Eudora Times with production.
