Family home destroyed in local fire

BY SYDNEY HOOVER

Local fire crews responded to a large house fire on 1100 Road Wednesday afternoon that resulted in a complete loss of the home.

Eudora Fire Chief Ken Keiter said firefighters responded to the fire just before 4 p.m. Wednesday. He said due to the house being rural, they could not contain the fire before running out of water. First responders left the scene around 11 p.m. after the fire went out.

There was no one in the home at the time of the fire, but Keiter said an adult and two children had been displaced by the fire.

Only one firefighter had reported injuries as of 9 a.m. Thursday, Keiter said.

Keiter said nothing could be salvaged from the house.

Mayor Tim Reazin said Officer Caleb Lewis has had a big hand in setting up fundraising and gathering clothes for the family in the meantime and more than $5,000 has been raised to help the family so far.

"Community outreach has been pretty positive for it," Reazin said.

Lewis set up a donation link here.
