City Manager Barack Matite presented plans for a new sports complex to school board members at Thursday evening's meeting.

A new set of soccer fields is another step closer to reality after the School Board voted Thursday night to approve an agreement with the city.

The fields will be in between Eudora Middle School and Eudora High School, according to a presentation from City Manager Barack Matite.

“We want to make sure that we involve every single entity when we start having these discussions, and the School District is a big piece of that as well,” Matite said.

The memorandum of agreement passed unanimously, setting the course for the soccer fields to potentially be developed as early as this summer.

The City Commission discussed the project Monday. Commissioners were waiting for the School Board to approve the project to start setting a timeline to develop the new sports complex.

The project could help bring economic development and increase overall growth in the community, said Michael Comparato, representative from the city’s Nottingham redevelopment team. And as the community increases, it potentially could expand further.

Eudora School Board President Mark Chrislip said ahead of the vote he was looking forward to seeing where the project would go.

“It’s very exciting to see what could potentially be happening down the road as far as economic growth and all these things,” Chrislip said.
