The arrival of a new manufacturing facility in Eudora will result in about 80 new jobs, Modern Manufacturing President Russ Taylor said during a press conference Thursday.
City and state officials and representatives from Canadian manufacturing company Modern Manufacturing gathered at Eudora City Hall to announce and answer questions about the new facility.
"Today's announcement is great news for the city of Eudora, for Douglas County and for the state of Kansas as a whole," City Manager Barack Matite said.
Modern Manufacturing serves the railroad industry and specializes in manufacturing aluminum, stainless steel and other high-strength metals. The new production facility will take over a vacant building in Eudora's Intech Business Park.
Taylor said the facility will result in a number of new hires from the local community and the company is working with Eudora High School and technical schools in the area to create a curriculum to train students and provide them with hands-on internships.
Taylor said Eudora was selected for the facility because of its business-friendly environment.
"The city really bent over backwards to help us," Taylor said. "We had other choices and the city of Eudora made it easy to say yes."
Kansas Secretary of Commerce David Toland said the development of this facility is significant for several reasons, including that it helps the Kansas economy during a challenging time as the state works to recover from the pandemic.
"This is a big deal," Toland said. "It's another example of how in spite of challenges in our nation's economy and the global economy, Kansas is on a roll. There's a lot of good news happening in spite of these challenges, and this is yet another example of that."
Mayor Tim Reazin said the new partnership with Modern Manufacturing will help Eudora to grow and invest in infrastructure improvement and economic development.
"We're excited to have Modern Manufacturing join our vibrant and growing community," Reazin said. "The commissioners and I always talk about having a 20- or 30-year plan, and I see this as fitting right into our long-term plan. We're encouraged that Modern Manufacturing wants to be an integral part of Eudora."
